Dolberg in Montpellier: where it all began!

On 14 September 2019, Kasper Dolberg contested his first Ligue 1 match at the Stade de La Mosson. Now, on 12 September 2020, the Denmark forward returns to the same ground as Le Gym lock horns with Montpellier on Saturday, kick-off at 17:00 CET. In just a year the Dane has shown his style, scored his goals and established himself as an integral member of the club.

One year ago, almost to the day, Kasper Dolberg discovered Le Gym, then the French top flight. He brought with him his playing philosophy, one touch, his scoring instinct, but also a physical fitness that needed to be perfected after a disrupted preseason. Facing MHSC's defensive triangle (Mendes - Hilton - Congré), he fought, was denied, got up and went again, but did not manage to find the back of the net. Despite a goal from Tameze, Le Gym went down 2-1.

A year later, in peak physical condition, the former Ajax player is one of the major weapons of the Rouge et Noir squad.

One statistic, more than any other, sums up his influence: with 13 goals and 3 assists in 28 matches, he scores or creates at least one goal every two games. In terms of finishing, with 0.52 goals per L1 match, he has done better than any Danish player has in the last 70 years.

Clinically, the man with the new hair cut has hit the target with 79.4% of his L1 strikes. Over the same period, no player who has made at least 10 attempts has done better.

Fox in the box, he has converted 15.8% of his shots in the penalty box into goals (12 goals from inside the box from 76 shots in L1), the highest percentage among players who have taken at least 50 shots in the opposing box since the beginning of last season.

2020, A GREAT VINTAGE

This "precision-execution" duo, that we saw in 2019-20, has extended into the beginning of the 2020-21 season. The stats, for their part, continue to advance at a steady pace. After being kept silent against Lens (2-1 win), without a shot, Dolberg answered against Strasbourg, by netting a double on his only two shots of the match (2-0).

This double in Alsace was the Scandinavian's third in 2020, the first having been scored against Lyon (2-1, 2 February) and the second, crucial, against Monaco (2-1, 7 March), in the final match of last season.

In 2020 in Ligue 1, no one has scored more goals than the Viking from Nice and his 8 goals. The Viking, who contributes greatly to the fact that the Gym has scored in each of its last 11 Ligue 1 games (18 goals in all), its best run since March to May 2018 (also 11).

Finally, in 2020, 36% of Dolberg's shots in L1 hit the back of the net (8/22), including the last 5 (1 vs Brest, 2 vs Monaco and 2 vs Strasbourg). In the 5 big championships, only Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos (40%) and Dortmund striker Erling Haaland (38%) have done better.
