AFTER NICE - RENNES (3-2)

Vieira: 'We're ready for Ligue 1'

Patrick Vieira spoke after Les Aiglons 3-2 win over Rennes in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Coach, what is your analysis of the 3-2 victory over Rennes?
It was a real match against a great team that's going to compete at the top of the table and for the European places. Our start to the game was complicated by the quality of Rennes but we managed to come back at the end of the first half. In the second half it was better for us, we played consistently, showed that we were making progress and that we will be ready for the start of the Ligue 1 season (Le Gym start on Sunday 23 August against Lens).

How do you explain the difficulties encountered at the beginning of the first half?
We wanted to control the game but we lacked rhythm, especially playing the ball out of defence. It took us too long to make the right choices and it was difficult to play the way we wanted. Our second half was much better.

What did you think of the performance of Youcef Atal, who was in the starting line-up and provoked two penalties?
We know Youcef, he's can make things happen, even if he still has to play better with his teammates and make the right choices at times. Let's not forget that he hadn't played for eight months since his injury against Metz. Youcef is not yet at his best level but he showed great things tonight.

It was your last preparation match. What is your assessment of preseason?
Our preseason was very positive. We were able to play eight games, to give a lot of players 90 minutes. We also had two well-organised training camps that went well. We're ready for the championship.
