P. Vieira: "Analyse the two halves”

Coach Vieira spoke to the press after his side’s second friendly of the summer, in which they lost against Saint-Etienne on Friday (4-1).

How would you analyse this second friendly?
What we need to do is to analyse the two halves. In the first, we showed a lot of very interesting stuff. I think it was a very good first half. In the second, there was that confirmation that the level we are looking for is maybe still a little too high for certain players.

What did you like before the break?
Amine, Hicham, Youcef, Hassane started to find each other more and more. There were moments where we were able to come out well with the ball. The link up play was pretty good. We are still lacking that little something to break into the opposition’s box and to be even more dangerous. But in terms of our build-up play, we showed some encouraging signs.

Did the physical aspects play an important role during the game?
Physically, it’s hard for us, it’s hard for them. We are in pre-season. But once again, this match taught us a lot...

The team isn’t complete yet...
Lots of teams are still short of players. We have identified our needs in attack, we are working on that so that we can further improve the squad.

What have you taken away from the training camp this week?
The most important thing is in terms of the standard of our performance. Have we progressed this evening compared with the match against Lyon? When I look at the first half, I would say yes, defensively, in terms of our intensity and the way we played. There were some very good things in the first half. And then it was more difficult to create chances. On the whole, I found the team to be better.
