RC Abidjan champions!

OGC Nice’s Partner Club for the past two years, RC Abidjan have been crowned champions of the Ivory Coast Ligue 1, for the first time in the club’s young history!

As in France, the league campaign in the Ivory Coast league stopped in March due to COVID-19. And in the same way as in the Hexagon, the season didn’t restart. At its meeting on Thursday, the Executive Committee of the Ivorian FA delivered its verdict on the 2019/20 season: the Ligue 1 league table remains as it was after the last round of matches. At the top of the table, with 38 points and six matches to go, RC Abidjan have now been officially named champions. A first for the club who only entered the top flight in 2018/19, after winning national titles (D3 in 2016 and D2 in 2018).

This is the fruit of the hard work that has been put in place since the foundations were laid in 2006, with the creation of the academy and then the merger with a D3 club in 2014. This season once again, they have plied their trade with a young squad, with players who have been at the club since their early days, and with a philosophy focused on good football. In 2020/21, the club will take part in the African Champions League.

A superb performance that OGC Nice are proud to celebrate with the club.
