2019-20

Benitez comes home third

Solid and consistent, Walter Benitez, 27, finished third in the 2019-20 Crédit Agricole PCA Aiglon of the Season voting.

His outstanding performances throughout the campaign see him deservedly claim his place on the podium with 25% of the suffrage. Week in, week out, Walter Benitez never seems to have a dip in form or a bad game over his 106 matches and counting for Le Gym. Named 2018-19 MVP by the Rouge et Noir supporters, the Argentina goalkeeper proved a solid last line of defence until the final whistle this term.

After missing the first two games of the season with a quadriceps problem, the former Quilmes man started every single one of the remaining league matches for Nice. He was coach Patrick Vieira’s most-used player this campaign.

Comfortable in the air and brilliant on his line, the South American giant always answered the challenge. His penalty save at a crucial time against Toulouse was vital in securing the 2-0 victory and remains one of the turning points of the championship.

As was his impeccable recital versus Monaco in the derby that earned the crucial final points of the term.
