ACM getting stronger

Voting on OGCNICE.com, Le Gym supporters elected the 2019-20 Crédit Agricole Young Player of the Season. Let’s begin our countdown to the winner and after third-place Ignatius Ganago, with 8% of the suffrage, Alexis Claude-Maurice came second with 26% of the votes.

Making his top flight debut in late summer 2019, Alexis Claude-Maurice is a product of the Lorient youth academy and arrived in the most-beautiful city in the world with a growing reputation as an attacking midfielder and excellent dribbler.

He made his Ligue 1 bow in the fifth match of the season against Montpellier (2-1), and despite featuring regularly, he failed to provide the difference going forward, despite his undeniable potential.

Drawn into the middle, Alexis played several different positions this season, behind the attacker, on the wing, or even in central midfield. It was in this No.8 position that everything clicked into place and in Week 24 of the term, he netted his first goal in Rouge et Noir away to Nîmes (1-3). It was a wonderful goal, checking inside and firing into the side netting – a clinical finish – and a weight was lifted from his shoulders, as he admitted later.

Nice fans left ACM on a moment of pure class in the 93rd minute of the derby against Monaco where he was at the origin of Dolberg’s winning goal. His excellent form stopped in its tracks by the global pandemic. Despite the early end to the campaign, Claude-Maurice’s first season on the Côte d’Azur confirmed his enormous potential and the fans voted him second in the Young Player of the Season award with 26% of the votes.
