Patrick Vieira: ‘We didn’t steal our points’

Speaking to OGCN.com via telephone, Patrick Vieira spoke about the decision to end the Ligue 1 season. “Before the start of the season, no-one ever imagined that it wouldn’t be played right to the very end,” explained the OGC Nice coach. “But exceptional decisions were taken in the light of unprecedented health crisis.

In the face of this COVID-19 pandemic, the Professional Football League (LFP) ended the 2019-20 season with Le Gym placed fifth in the standings – two spots higher than the previous season. “That said, we didn’t steal our points,” added the coach. “We have a young squad, maybe one of the youngest sides in all of Europe, so I’d like to congratulate the players, my coaching staff and the entire club on this result.”

Depending on the results in the two domestic Cup finals, Les Aiglons could qualify for the Europa League next term. For Patrick Vieira “that would be a great opportunity for the lads and the whole club to continue to grow and experience something new. We will do everything we can to be worthy of the occasion, should it present itself.
