THE KEY POINTS

The French Football League's (LFP) Administrative Council voted on Friday, 13 March, to suspend Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, a measure with "immediate effect" and "until further notice". Naturally, the amateur leagues (youth and women) have also been suspended by the FFF.

Following the postponement of EURO 2020 for 12 months by UEFA, a working group will define several options for national competitions to be played to a finish. When games are again played is, however, dependent on the date on which the health crisis ends.

OGC Nice have decided to close its professional department and have suspended individual treatment until further notice. A bespoke training schedule has been sent to each player. The youth academy has also been closed.

All OGC events (job forum, Village etc.) have been postponed to a later date.

Will the Ligue 1 championship resume and if so, when?

For OGC Nice, the championship is frozen on the joy of Kasper Dolberg and Les Aiglons after their victory in the derby against Monaco. There are now 10 games left to play to complete the 2019/20 season.
After the postponement of EURO 2020, the French Football League's (LFP) Administrative Council said in a statement "that the priority of priorities is to finish the Ligue 1 Conforama and Domino's Ligue 2 seasons. Given the sporting and economic stakes involved, this priority is vital for the future of the clubs and French football…As soon as the conclusions of the working group are known, several options will be defined to design an end-of-season calendar of domestic competitions…UEFA's structuring decisions taken today therefore allow work to be carried out on recovery scenarios, which are, however, all dependent on the date on which the health crisis ends."

Is the first team continuing to train?

Given the public health developments (the move to Stage 3, signifying the closure of a number of public spaces and limitation of public gatherings), the first-team's activities and training sessions have been suspended until further notice. The club has put in place bespoke training programmes which have been sent to each player in order to put them in the best possible condition to return to competition.

Has it already happened in France?

Yes. In May 1968, social movements led to the suspension of the first and second division championships. It lasted almost a month, although the title had just been awarded to Les Verts on 22 May. All the clubs then returned to the pitch on 11 June and played the remaining five rounds, where the main sporting interest lay at the bottom of the standings. The professional season would stretch until 13 July that year.

What about the youth teams?

From 12 March, the FFF announced the suspension of all amateur championships. Also, the training centre was closed the following day and until further notice. The administrative staff have been asked to work remotely.

What about spectators, season-ticket holders and partners?

Ticket holders for the Nice vs Montpellier match, initially scheduled for 21 March, will be reimbursed. The procedure has been started. We will address our loyal season ticket holders and partners, once the LFP has made a decision on the 10 remaining matches of the championship (see above).
