Aiglon of the match

Kasper king of the derby

Kasper Dolberg built on his fabulous start to the year with a brace in the derby win against Monaco on Saturday, and also earned himself a landslide win as the Crédit Agricole Aiglon of the Match with 50% of the votes.

He'd just picked up the prize for being the top Aiglon in February, and didn't let up at the Allianz Riviera.

SARR: 'HE'S A KILLER'

"He's a killer," said Malang Sarr after the 2-1 win. "When he scores, he's ice cold. When he plays, he's ice cold." The Denmark international certainly was that in front of the Monaco goal on Saturday. He needed just three efforts to score his second double for the club (after that against Lyon), and the whole of the Allianz Riviera fell for him again.

He got Le Gym afloat when he guided Adam Ounas' cross into the far corner (59') before lifting the roof off the stadium three minutes into added time. "It's difficult to choose between the two goals," said our number 9. "Of course the second has a special flavour as it was the matchwinner. For the first, it was a good ball from Adam and I knew I didn't need to get much on it. It was enough. It was the same thing for the second."

Praised by L’Équipe and Nice-Matin (who gave him 8/10), the former Ajax man claimed it "wasn't my best game". Best or not, he's been involved in eight goals in his last eight league games, scoring six of them. In 2020, only Kylian Mbappé (7) has scored more times than the Nice goalscorer (6).

OUNAS AND LEES-MELOU ON THE PODIUM

Second in the vote was Adam Ounas (36%). The Algeria international has been involved in a goal in his last four league games, a career-first for him (2 goals, 3 assists). It's the third time the Nice number 10 has teed up a goal for Dolberg following assists against Brest (2-2, Wk26) and Dijon (2-1, Wk6). He also won 75% of his challenges in a hotly contested derby.

Pierre-Lees Melou is also on the podium (11%). Honoured before the game as an inaugural member of the '100 Club' alongside Dante, Malang Sarr, Walter Benitez and Wylan Cyprien, PLM again showed his worth in racing back to halt Aleksandr Golovin (19') and linking defence and attack (89.5% passes completed).
