Vieira : « A good point »

Patrick Vieira gave the media his thoughts on his team's draw with Bordeaux (1-1).

Coach, how do you feel after that draw with Bordeaux ?
On the second-half display, we could have done better, but given the first half, it's a good point.

Did you feel your players were fragile in the first half?
No, they weren't fragile, but we lacked depth to our game, and width. It was a first start for Riza [Durmisi] and Moussa [Wagué]: they needed more of an understanding with their teammates. You could see that in the first half where everyone wanted the ball to feet and it was difficult for us to bring the ball out. We made some adjustments in the second half and we were a lot more dangerous, by giving width and stretching the game. The goal came from a cross, we were rewarded. We could have done better, but they were dangerous too on two or three situations.

What was lacking for the goal that was conceded?
Perhaps it was difficult to do more, because we were lacking physically, athletically. That goal showed up our shortcomings in that area. But we didn't give up, and the players came back out with a lot of determination. We were good on the ball and we caused them a huge amount of problems. It's a shame.

Adam Ounas scored a nice goal. What did you think of his performance?
He has to keep improving. He didn't play a lot at Napoli, nor at the Africa Cup of Nations. And then he injured his knee at Monaco (on 24 September) and lacked rhythm. I'm happy for him, because he's made an effort to get back to his best. He was very good tracking back, he worked a lot. He was rewarded with his goal. I'm really happy for him, but he can and must do better.

Are you happy with the system you employed today with three central defenders?
I was a lot happier in the second half when we were better. It's a system we're likely to use a bit more often. The choice depends on the players' profile and their form. What I saw in the seccond half was encouraging. We're going to use video analysis to improve the positioning and make the players understand what I really expect of them, by being clearer. But it's a system I liked a lot.

Europe is within reach, especially if Paris win the Coupe de la Ligue...
Everything is still possible. It's important Paris win the cup, but in this league, since the start of the season, every team can drop points. We have to focus more on our play. In the first half, we weren't good, that's frustrating. We came back more determined in the second half. We have to try and play for 90 minutes.

You now have two big games (Monaco next Saturday and a trip to Paris eight days later). When do you expect from your team in these two games?
To be competitve against these two teams. We're going to start with Monaco: we have the means to cause them problems. We'll have to play and keep the same spirit we showed in the second half to hope to win the game.
