Nice 2-1 Lyon

A beautiful victory!

Determined to seek revenge after their cruel elimination from the cup on Thursday evening, Les Aiglons beat Lyon on Sunday thanks to a brace from Kasper Dolberg (2-1).

Les Aiglons had been frustrated by Rennes last weekend (1-1) and again by Lyon on Thursday (1-2, in the Coupe de France), but on Sunday afternoon, they left the field full of joy, after sharing a special moment with their fans.

Patrick Vieira’s side had started the game pinned back in their own half by the visitors, but as the game went on, Les Aiglons progressively loosened Lyon’s grip on the game, before fully taking advantage of Marçal’s sending off for a foul on Bouadoui, after the Niçois who had started the brightest, was brought down as he was through on goal (22’).

After ten positive minutes in the Lyon half, Le Gym threw themselves on their prey. Dolberg, as he had done at St Etienne, finished from close-range, after a strike from Lees Melou was dropped by Tatarusanu (1-0, 33’).

Aouar, then Marcelo (in very different styles) put both sides back on a level footing. First of all, a Lyon goal, which began with some excellent work down the left from the number 8 and was finished by Toko Ekambi from a yard out (1-1, 45’). And it was then time to focus on levelling out the numerical advantage, as the Brazilian provoked Claude-Maurice on the floor - something that only led to a booking for Marcelo… and after a coming together, Adam Ounas was sent off for an early bath (45’+4).

After the break, Patrick Vieira’s side continued to push and get the ball down and play. The coach pushed Danilo further forward, as he did against Rennes and added rhythm to the game. The second Nice goal was the perfect example of what the Niçois were looking to do: smart work from Claude-Maurice, an excellent ball from Boudaoui and Dolberg made no mistake as he got in front of his defender (2-1, 63’).

The final half an hour was dominated by Lyon, but ACM still managed to hit the post (84’). OL pushed hard, but Nice held on. A combattive Nice side, rewarded at the final whistle and celebrated as they move up to 8th place in Ligue 1, on the same number of points as Lyon and two points off Lille (4’).
