Where does the current Gym find itself?

​After locking horns with the other 19 teams in the top flight, Les Aiglons finished the first half of the season with a 3-0 home win over Toulouse. So let’s take a look at the stats from Patrick Vieira’s side halfway through the campaign.

The give some context, we’ve compared the numbers of this current Gym side 2019-20 with the other performances of the last decade. How do they fare?

27 points, for the 3rd year in a row

With 27 points, Wylan Cyprien and Co. Have the same total as the previous two campaigns at Christmas. Over the last ten seasons, Les Rouge et Noir have only done better on three occasions, each time qualifying for Europe by finishing third in 2016-17 and fourth in 2015-16 and 2012-13. 

Lower on table, closer on points

As in each of the last five seasons, OGC Nice are in the top half of the table. And while they are currently tenth in the standings, they are just four points from fourth place, closer than in 2018-19 (6pts) or 2017-18 (11pts). 

attack: started well!

With 28 goals scored, Les Niçois have regularly been finding the back of the net. They have scored twice as many as the same time last term. Over the last decade, the club has only done better on two occasions, with 32 goals in the first half of 2015-16 and 34 goals in 2016-17.

Defence: could do better

Since the start of the campaign, Les Rouge et Noir have conceded 27 goals; that’s 9 more than the same time last season. Over the last decade, no-one has done better than the first season under Lucien Favre where Les Aiglons only conceded 13 times.
