Vieira: “In progress”

Before leaving the Stade de Sclessin, Patrick Vieira delivered his analysis of the encounter against Standard (2-1 for Les Rouches).

Coach, what did you make of this match against the Belgians?

It was an interesting match. There are a lot of positive lessons to take from it. Collectively, we saw a side who was producing coherent stuff. I liked our spirit and our work as a team, with and without the ball. Compared with our last match (3-1 defeat against Thoune), we are progressing.

Your opponent was further on in its preparation for the season.

Of course, they are a good side who are starting their league campaign next week. They are more advanced than us. But to come back to our performance, we showed that we were a lot better as a side. The players are working very hard and very well, and you could  see that today.

“Eddy had a very good game”

Eddy Sylvestre scored a great goal. How did you rate his performance?

Eddy had a very good game. These are youngsters with huge potential. When they understand that the team will allow them to show their talent, they take a huge step forward. Today, Eddy relied on the team to allow him to put in a good performance.  We have young players who have good spirit and work seriously. We are going to do all we can to help them to grow.

Another away trip now awaits in three days time (against Boavista Porto)...

We are getting into the second part of pre-season where we are going to play match after match, after working hard physically, athletically and tactically for the first three weeks. We will be able to see how the team is progressing. But today we showed some very good things, I am rather happy.
