You voted Walter Benitez your "Aiglon of the Season for 2018-19" and Malang Sarr as "Young Player of the Year". The awards ceremony, sponsored by Crédit Agricole PCA, took place on Tuesday at Le Gym’s training complex during the Partnership Garden Party.

Benitez ahead of Atal

The running for the main prize saw the Argentinian stopper pip Youcef Atal to the post, with the full-back being awarded the silver medal (with 40% of the votes). Consistent and a perfect role model, Dante (7%) takes third place - deserved recognition for his high quality performances. This season, the gold medal was handed to the heart of the Nice defence, Walter Benitez. Always decisive, often unbeatable, Le Gym’s last line of defence received 49% of the supporters’ vote. He is the first goalkeeper to win the trophy since David Ospina (2013-14) and follows in the footsteps of Alassane Plea, the winner in 2018.

Walter Benitez picked up his trophy from Marriane Chamly (A VIP Crédit Agricole client), alongside David Zielinski (Marketing Director of Crédit Agricole Provence Côte d'Azur) and Louison Auger (Commercial Operations Director of OGC Nice).

Malang Sarr, Young Player of the Season  

In the young player category, the man who dominated the voting was Malang Sarr (76% of the vote). Used to doing things very quickly, the defender who came through the ranks at the club - and who was already on the podium for the same category in his first two years as a pro - made the step up during this full season (34 matches in L1 before the final game of the season against Monaco). This step up has allowed him to become one of the leaders in the squad at only 20 years old, proven by his appearance as captain last weekend at Saint-Etienne. Malang’s name will appear below Allan Saint-Maximin’s on the trophy, after the forward won the award last year (he also picks up the silver medal for this year’s award with 13% of the vote). Olivier Boscagli completed the podium (2%).
