Interview

Vieira: “Committed until the very end”

Patrick Vieira felt that his side’s draw with FC Nantes was the right result (1-1). A match that Le Gym could have won in the final moments of the game, but could equally have lost before then.

How would you analyse this game?

We had a very bad first half. It was very difficult for us. This Nantes side had analysed our game well and caused us endless problems. Quite simply, we didn’t know how to play. It was a lot better in the second half. It’s not a lack of desire but rather the quality of the organisation of the Nantes team that caused us problems. On the whole, the draw is the right result for both sides. We are disappointed to have missed the penalty that would have secured us the three points, but we equally could have lost the game. The penalty? Atal was down to take it. The keeper did well, but the strike could have been better. He was tired at the end of the match, maybe someone else could have taken it, but I am not annoyed with him If we look back at our penalties this season, we have missed a couple that have been important…

Ganago wasn’t in the match day squad in the end, what was his issue?

He had a slight issue with his calf yesterday at the end of training. We didn’t want to take any risks given his recent injuries. We hope that he will be back in training in the week.

What did you make of Mickaël Le Bihan’s first start of the season?

Interesting. I knew that it was going to be difficult physically, because he lacked rhythm. He was meant to come off after an hour, but he was getting better and better in the second half, that’s why I waited a bit. He surprised me a bit, yes. He has had lots of injuries, some pretty serious injuries. I am very happy to see him at this level again because he never gave up and always worked hard - he remained positive.

How will you approach these final two matches?

We will take the last two games as seriously as we have done in the previous games. We have always gone out onto the pitch with the desire to do well. We showed in the second half that we were committed and that we want to finish as high as possible. We will give our all in order to beat Saint-Etienne.
