Crédit Agricole Aiglon of the Match

A majority for “El Commandante"

With a majestic performance and getting his name on the scoresheet on Sunday, Dante ensured his side got a victory at the Allianz Riviera (1-0 against Montpellier). His performance impressed the fans, so much so that he picked up 52% of the votes and won the title of Crédit Agricole Aiglon of the Match.

On top of his 30 starts and 2,686 minutes played during the 2018-19 season (which make him Patrick Vieira’s most used player), Dante has now added a goal. And what a header! In the 20th minute of the game, Les Aiglons won a free-kick on the right wing after a foul on Patrick Burner. Wylan Cyprien stood over the ball and the midfielder played the ball perfectly to the back post, where he found his captain. The Brazilian rose the highest in the box and connected with a header that the opposition’s goalkeeper was unable to stop. An opportune and decisive goal (his third in Le Gym’s colours). Incredibly solid, Dante also recorded a pass completion rate of 95% on Sunday, another figure which demonstrates a complete performance.

The stat:

At 35 years and five months, Dante became Nice’s oldest goal scorer in Ligue 1 since Olivier Echouafni scored against Valenciennes on 3 October 2009 at 37 years old.

Allan Saint-Maximin (27%) also impressed the Nice fans with his numerous piercing runs in behind the Montpellier defence and his general effort and support defensively. In third place, Bassem Srarfi (15% of the vote) attracted compliments from his captain: “We have never seen him like that. He was agressive in defence and very good up-front, with 1-on-1s.”
