Vieira: “The players gave their all”

Frustrated by the draw, Aiglons’ coach Patrick Vieira focussed on the spirit of his side in coming from behind in a lively match.

Patrick, what do you take away from this match?

I will take the spirt of the squad away from this evening. We were losing and we pushed to get back into the game, we managed to do so, and we even had chances to win the game. In terms of desire and attitude, it was good, the players gave their all. In the last 15-20 minutes, we definitely deserved better.

How did you find the end of the match, watching from the stands?

I am more disappointed for Pierre (Lees-Melou). Before that last chance, he had played a great match, one of his best for Nice. To miss a chance like that is obviously tough for him and for the team. But on Wednesday, he will definitely put it away. That’s football.

How did  you rate Ganago’s game?

He was available. He was late on 2-3 occasions in the box but he worked for the team. For a first start, it was good. In comparison with previous matches, we had a lot more chances and were more dangerous. That proves that we are in the process of improving offensively even if we still lack a bit of aggressiveness.

This match was also a great one for both keepers…

Yes, this evening, it was a good match with two very good goalkeepers. There were chances at both ends, it could have been 2-2 or 3-3. But we are still frustrated because in the final ten minutes, there was the scope to take the three points.

Pensez-vous que le penalty pour votre équipe est justifié ?

I am not sure. But the referee gave it and the VAR didn’t rule it out, so…

You had 23 shots but you needed a penalty in order to score…

If you look at our recent games, we were averaging between 5 and 10 shots. Today we had more than 20, that means that we are progressing, that we are getting into postions to shoot. We need to continue to work in order to give the players more confidence to convert them.

Can you give us an update on Mario Balotelli?

He was in treatment this morning, that will be the case again tomorrow. He will train on his own and we will see if its doable for Wednesday against Guingamp.
