Three days before Bordeaux

Malang Sarr: “The winds will turn”

The start of his season was delayed by his participation in the Euros with the French U20s, the defender (19 years old, 55 appearances in Ligue 1) took his place  back in the starting eleven in Week 4, during the famous victory in Lyon (0-1). He hasn’t left the side since, and once again put in a strong performance on Sunday in the derby defeat against Marseille (1-0).

Malang, now you have had the chance to reflect, what do you take away from the defeat on Sunday?

We returned to training yesterday morning. To get back on the pitch is always great, and it allows you to begin to digest the previous match. We take an important lesson from the game. Because despite the result, the content was good, especially in the first half. There are things to improve, for sure, but we don’t need to rip everything up. That’s what makes me think that the future will be better. In the end, we will be rewarded.

Your feeling after 10 matches?

The start of our season is mixed. We have combined the very good with the less good. We need to recognise and use what has worked in order to reproduce it and continue. The coach always tells us that we can’t let our heads drop, and to carry on working. That’s what we need. When we cut out those errors, the winds will turn.

The trip to Bordeaux?

We are travelling to face a good team, who are in-form with strong forwards. They are comfortable at home (3 wins and a draw in their most recent home fixtures). They are playing well at the moment; we know that a huge match will be waiting for us. We will need to put in a top performance in order to win it. To play our game, give our all to take home the three points.
