Looking back at 2017-18
In March, it gets going again!
10 days after the end of the 2017-18 season and 70 days before the next campaign begins, OGCNICE.com offers you a chance to dive back, month by month, into the longest season in the Gym’s history.
After a complicated month in February, the Aiglons got going again in March, with only Paris getting the better of them.
The story
The pleasant days were back. The rhythm slowed down, the training sessions were extended, and the legs rested. 9th at the start of the month “Lucien’s side”, won in a key match against Lille. During this excellent match, Super Mario scored the Gym’s 3000th goal in the top flight - almost a sign.
In a system which would be unchanged until the end of the campaign - the 4-3-3 -, they began to pick up points. Initially, relying on the talent of Wylan Cyprien, a late scorer against Lille, then on the team’s rediscovered desire.
The performances were back, the gaps returned too. Guingamp collapsed at the Roudourou (5-2), after Plea scored four. The game against Paris was played in front of 1.6 million viewers in Asia but the men from the Capital won at the Plaine du Var (2-1). At the end of the month, and at the start of the final sprint, Nice were 3 points behind Rennes (5th).
The key moment
Aiglon of the Month
Made up of the 3 front men of the Nice 4-3-3, this month’s podium was dominated by Alassane Plea. The number 14 was rewarded for his incredible performance against Guingamp (four goals) and his assist against PSG.
