Look back at 2017-18

European football comes to an end in February

10 days after the end of the 2017-18 season and 70 days before the next campaign begins, OGCNICE.com offers you a chance to dive back, month by month, into the longest season in the Gym’s history.

The Russian mountains brought the Aiglons’ European adventure to a close in a cold Moscow.

The story

The demons of the Autumn came back to the fore: the Gym didn’t win any of its 4 league matches. Worse, the team proved extremely inconsistent over 90 minutes. Something which goes unforgiven both in Ligue 1, where opponents who are dominated still pick up points (defeats against Toulouse and Dijon, draws against Nantes and Bordeaux), and in the Europa League.

The double header against Lokomotiv was an example of this inconsistency. In Nice, thanks to an excellent Saint-Maximin and Balotelli who scored two, the Red and Blacks put in an almost perfect half an hour. They conceded a goal before the break, and collapsed afterwards (2-3). In extreme conditions, a masterstroke would never materialise.

The key moment

Aiglon of the Month

Already rewarded in November, the Argentinian goalkeeper was your Aiglon of the Month for February. He picked up more than an absolute majority (53 %),  and beat Dante (22%) and Pierre Lees-Melou (21%) to the award.

The extra information

They like to sing that they’re going to cross the whole world. And they did it. Despite an unfavorable draw and a broken a thermometer (-15 at kick off), around 100 Gym supporters travelled the 2500km separating Nice and the Russian capital.
