In the top five, a first this season

Thanks to the win over Montpellier on Sunday (1-0), OGC Nice climbed into the  Top 5 of Ligue 1 for the first time this season.

The draw between Rennes and Nantes (1-1), at the start of Matchday 34, opened the gap.  The Gym took full advantage of it. With 50 points on the board, the Aiglons sit alone in 5th place, the position that had belonged to the Rennais since Matchday 30.

Lucien Favre’s side are closely followed by Saint-Étienne. In beating ESTAC at Geoffroy-Guichard (2-1), the Verts signed off with a 12th consecutive match without defeat. Unbeaten since their trip to the Allianz Riviera on 22 January (1-0), ASSE are just one point behind the Gym (49 points).

Stade Rennais are now in 7th. With 48 points, Sabri Lamouchi’s team still lead Montpellier (8th, 46 points), Nantes (9th, 46 points) and Guingamp (10th, 45 points).
