Nice - Metz

SOUQUET REWARDED

You made Arnaud Souquet the Credit Agricole Aiglon of the match against Metz (0-0). Defensively sound and regularly seen popping up on the right wing, the full-back received 51% of the vote. Vincent Koziello (14%) and Walter Benitez (11%) completed the podium.

In the starting 3-4-3, he was lined-up on the right of the midfield, with a double mission: remain disciplined without the ball and offer numbers in attack when the Gym had possession. Arnaud Souquet achieved his missions and more. During the first ninety minutes of football in 2017 at the Allianz, the former-Dijon defender had 69 touches and a 90% success rate with his deliveries.

All of this whilst at the same time adding danger down the wing, particularly in the first half when he created two opportunities for his teammates, opening the game up and sliding them in (Ricardo and Koziello), before seeing his shot punched away by Didillon in the box. Serious and disciplined, the number two, however, left the game frustrated. Souquet said: “It was a bit difficult but we know that we will have lots of matches like that between now and the end of the season. It’s a first match and we drew it. Now, the teams know us and will be almost waiting for us. We need to find the answers to ensure we go and get the points against Bastia on Friday.”

Behind the full-back was Vincent Koziello, who finished in second position after the vote. On a difficult pitch, the midfielder was tasked with keeping the ball on the floor and looking for answers. He made 87 touches, 92% pass success rate, four tackles and recovered the ball on nine occasions (the highest amongst Nice players).

Finally, Walter Benitez completed the podium. The keeper had a very solid game making an impressive save from a shot from Cohade. The Argentine stopper also made the L’Equipe’s team of the week.
