Nantes - Nice

Nice fans unable to attend on saturday

Following a public order released by the Prefecture of the Loire-Atlantique, Nice supporters will be unable to travel to Nantes to cheer on the Gym on Saturday, for the 30th game of the season.

After having the feeling that they had made a huge step forward against St-Etienne, the Gym and its supporters are now realising that there is still a long way to go...

On 8 February, despite historic rivalries, the Red and Blacks and their fans pleaded with the Prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes so that the Greens could be supported by their fans at the Allianz Riviera. A group plea that paid off. "Together, it was a lot better", was even a headline on OGCNICE.com following the 24th match when it was football as a sport that won.

One long month later, and now, “all people coming to the game as OGC Nice supporters or behaving as such” are banned from the trip to Beaujoire. And this is due to the same reasons as those raised by previous orders: “the security forces available are not sufficient to ensure the security of the people, and more specifically, the supporters themselves.”

Whilst the team are in contention at the top of Ligue 1, they will be, once again, prevented from having the support of their loyal supporters, 15 days after 500 of them had crossed France to support them in Dijon.

OGC Nice can only regret this decision, and hope that the bans on travelling to away games will, from now on, be the exception to the rule in France.
