Marseille 2-2 Nice

Farioli: ‘We perhaps deserved a little more’

Here is what Francesco Farioli had to say in the post-match press conference after the 2-2 draw away to Marseille.

Is this a good point for your team?
Yes, considering the way the game went, that's a good point. I have a few regrets, though, because in the first 25 minutes we saw a performance of a very high standard from us, with four great chances, plus another from Sanson at the end of the first half. In my opinion, we should have gone in at the break at least 2-0 up. But we have to take into account that we were playing against a strong team in their stadium, and when you give them a bit of ground, they have the quality and the individuals that can hurt you. In the end, with everything that happened, it's a good point. I'm just a little sorry because tonight, with all the commitment the boys showed, we perhaps deserved a little bit more.

A word on Melvin Bard, who scored his first goal of the season? A goal that secured a share of the spoils…
He deserved it. He has produced excellent performances all season. Tonight he was in the right place at the right time. He was there to win back the ball and to shoot. I’m happy for him and for his performance.

Did you leave Youssouf on the bench for tactical reasons?
Youssouf is still working back to full fitness. He is coming back from a very serious injury and he is slowly but surely getting back to 100% physically. Given the way the match was playing out, he didn’t come on, but physically, he’s not ready to start or play the full 90 minutes. We have to manage his situation. Perhaps he needs a bit more time. Youssouf’s situation is more about managing his condition than tactical choices.
