Coupe de France

Farioli: "Happy to get through this round"

Francesco Farioli reacted to OGC Nice's 2-3 victory over Bordeaux in the Coupe de France round of 16 at the Matmut Atlantique.

What's your reaction after qualifying?

Qualifying was an important objective, so I'm happy that we got through this round. We had several chances to kill the game off but in a stadium like this, if you start conceding chances, everything becomes more complicated. But we managed to hold on. A few regrets about not being able to kill the game off earlier, but we scored three goals, something that hadn't happened for a long time. I'm happy that we've qualified.

What did you think of Mohamed-Ali Cho's first start?

Mohamed-Ali Cho played a very strong game with great intensity. It's been a long time since he started a match so it was important for him to regain his confidence. He did some good things and got involved during the game. You always expect a player like him to make the difference in one-on-one situations. He needs to regain his freshness and the quality of his first passes, but he contributed a lot. He was there for us, he created two or three important chances in the match. It's very positive.

We saw Morgan Sanson take on a lot of responsibility, create a lot of chances, score a brace...

The journalists asked me about that and even told me that our midfielders don't score many goals. Morgan had a very good game tonight. I'm pleased that he was able to score, that he got on the scoresheet and he got the breakthrough for the second half of the season. He's never lacked talent in any of his games, but he sometimes lacked the final touch. I'm also pleased for Evann Guessand that he was able to score and create a lot of chances. I'm also happy for Tom Louchet, who did a great job both tactically and physically. There were a lot of positives on the night. Now we have to think about the Metz game and get back to the league.

You conceded two goals, what do you need to do to regain your defensive composure?

We've conceded more chances recently than we did in the first 16 or 17 games of the season. We conceded at least three clear-cut chances to Bordeaux tonight. On the first one, we had an excellent save from our keeper. For the first goal, the team was fairly well organised at the start, but we could have done better in terms of marking in the box. Bordeaux's second goal was a shot from distance, an individual effort. We need to regain our intensity in duels, the strength to press the ball carrier, sacrifice and hard work. These will be key factors if we want to continue to compete at a high level.
