Nice – Rennes in 5 faces

Before kick-off between Nice - Rennes (Sunday at 20:45), get into the game through these five individuals who have played and worked at both clubs.

Jérémie Boga

Before returning to L1 this summer, when he signed for Le Gym, Jérémie Boga had only played for one club in L1: Stade Rennais, with whom he played 31 matches and scored 3 goals during the 2015-16 season. 31 matches, including one that left its mark, at the Allianz Riviera against Le Gym. Les Aiglons won that encounter thanks to a Hatem Bern Arfa hat-trick (3-0 on 10 April 2016). “I have a bad memory of that day, but a good one too as I swapped shirts with him and he congratulated me on the way I had played”, explained the Ivorian winger when speaking to OGCNICE.tv. “It was 50-50: a bit of a sad day, but a bit a happy one too, because he was one of my favourite players. To have his shirt and receive a compliment from him, it’s something that I will never forget.”

Gaëtan Laborde

Clermont, Rennes, Montpellier: the current run of three matches that Le Gym are on, sees Gaëtan Laborde face three of his former clubs. With 18 goals in 54 matches for Nice (2 goals this season), the n°24 arrived on the south coast during the summer of 2022, from Rennes. At Rennes, he found the back of the net on 19 occasions in 47 appearances.

It’s worth noting that Laborde opened the scoring during the last match between the two sides on 6 May this year (2-1 win for Le Gym).

Sofiane Diop

Although he broke onto the scene at the top level at Monaco, Sofiane Diop played his youth football at Stade Rennais. The playmaker left Brittany in 2018 to sign his first professional contract at ASM in 2018.

Amine Gouiri et Bruno Génésio

In the other direction, two former Aiglons are currently plying their trade with SRFC. The first in their attacking line-up and the other as their coach: Amine Gouiri and Bruno Génésio.

After coming through the ranks at OL, Gouiri spent two season in the Comté*, scoring 28 goals from 2020 until 2022.

Les Bretons’ coach played in the Rouge et Noir midfield during the 1993-94 season. On loan from Lyon, he scored 2 goals in 35 outings in the OGC Nice shirt.

*The forward also played the first five matches of the 2022-23 season, before signing for Rennes on 1 September 2022.
