Nice - Rennes

Jallet: “What counts is the squad”

His return to the starting eleven, 8 months after his last appearance, didn’t go unnoticed. Back with a bang against Lyon, Christophe Jallet came through excellently. A role model who is ready to build up the games, the French full back sat down to talk, with 3 days to go until the return of the league.

Christophe, how would you analyse this week during the international break?

We are trying to prepare well for the match against Rennes (kick-off on Friday at 7pm), because it will be very important. We haven’t won at home yet this season and we need to keep the positivity that we got from the win at Lyon (1-0). We had a bad run at the start of the league, but it would be good to get a positive run going. We will need to pull out a high quality performance in order to win it. I hope we will be able to do it, we are doing all that we can in order to do so.

Your return?

It’s going well. The physical side of things is responding well, which is already a good thing. I am very happy not to be feeling pain and to be able to train normally. I try to take pleasure during the daily sessions and the matches, when I get the opportunity to play. I was delighted to get back out there against Lyon. I hope to play as many as possible.

The coach used you as an example after the win at the Groupama Stadium, paying tribute to your “exceptional performance” and your behaviour. Was this important for you?

I am happy, of course, but it’s not the most important thing, because what counts most is the squad. At the moment, we aren’t about the “people” but rather looking for points and confidence. If my attitude can allow the squad to progress and to go even further to pick up points, that’s great, because it’s the only thing that counts. You need to think about the team, the club, and to do everything in order to climb as high as we can, and as quickly as we can.

What will the friendly against Albissola have given you (2-0)?

It allowed us to work on some slight improvements against a side who gave its all. We worked to correct those things we did less well against Lyon. We have a couple of players who have gone off with their national sides, but lots stayed behind, which helps us to work well. We used a new system in the last match, we need to perfect it if we want to be even better. It’s always interesting to do that in times of adversity, there’s more intensity than in some “classical” training sessions.
