Dante dreams of a personal record with Nice

Ahead of the first game of Ligue 1 (Nice - Reims, on Saturday, at 8pm), the Aiglons captain spoke to media after the morning training session. "El Commandante" spoke about his arrival, his career and his longevity at the Gym.

I took the risk of leaving the comfort zone that I had in Germany in order to join OGC Nice. I am very happy here. My arrival was, largely, down to Lucien Favre. When I arrived, I met people who really respected my work. I am very grateful and I hope that I will never disappoint them.”

The Swiss coach has been replaced by Patrick Vieira this summer, something which the Gym’s number 31 sees as “an extra source of motivation”. “He knew me from the outside but not on a daily basis: I feel obliged to show what I can give him. This challenge is good for me, despite my age.

“To play the most games in my career with Nice”

At 34 years old, and despite an impressive trophy cabinet, Dante still boasts ambition two days before his 88th match in the Nice colours. “My desire? That Nice becomes the club where I have played the most games. I hope it will happen.” In order to do so, the captain will need to beat the 103 games he played for Borussia Mönchengladbach, as well as the 133 outings in the Bayern Munich shirt. “If I manage it, it would mean that I am still in good health and that I still add something. This objective gives me even more desire and motivation for the season to come.”
