Look back at 2017-18

In April, there was still hardly anything in it

10 days after the end of the 2017-18 season and 70 days before the next campaign begins, OGCNICE.com offers you a chance to dive back, month by month, into the longest season in the Gym’s history.

Back in the running after a strong month in March, the Aiglons continued in the same form in April, but were unable to put themselves out of sight ahead of the big clashes which awaited in May.

The story

A month split between points and bitter feelings. The men from the Côte didn’t lose any of their 5 fixtures (2 wins and 3  draws), which allowed them to remain in the battle for Europe. The only problem: they didn’t manage to put it beyond doubt and were still capable of letting things go (like at Strasbourg and Angers).

Up-front, Plea shone. The team moved forward but slowly. Rennes held on, Montpellier fell to defeat, everything remained open. The inconsistent form of all those in the running for Europe ensured the suspense and hope continued.

The key moment

Aiglon of the Month

On the back of his excellent month in March, Alassane Plea continued to play (apart from at Strasbourg because of suspension) and score. Two goals to start the month at Troyes (2–0), an excellent long-ranged effort against Rennes at the Allianz (1-1), and keeping a calm head against Angers (1-1), the former Lyon man proved his consistency.

The extra information

Sunday 8 April 2018, during the match between Nice - Rennes Mickaël Le Bihan made his return to the field in Ligue 1,336 days after his last appearance (at Marseille, 7 May 2017). A return which delighted the Nice fans, who welcomed him back with a standing ovation.
