Nice - Caen

The tables have turned

The encounter between Nice – Caen on Saturday will take place in the complete opposite situation to the match between the two sides earlier this season.

The ups and downs of a season sometimes offers certain curiosities as it opens up. The situation surrounding the Nice – Caen match, taking place in Week 37 of L1 (kick off on Saturday at 9pm at the Allianz Riviera), is one of them. A look back shows the complete opposite situation to the one which preceded their first meeting this season.

19 November 2017, before the game, the Niçois were sat in 16th in the league. They were to face Patrice Garande’s side who were in great form and entered the 13th game of the season in 7th place.

Six months later, the two sides “have swapped shirts”. Lucien Favre’s side got going and have now picked up 37 points in 23 outings and are back in the race for Europe. Driven by one ambition: to move up one or two places in the league and to find themselves on the international stage once more.

On the other hand, the Vikings have slowly slipped into the turbulent zones and are now fighting for survival. They are now in 15th place and have 37 points on the board. Leaving them with a 3 point lead on Toulouse (18th), currently in the playoff position.
