Favre: “A magnificent reaction”

The Aiglons’ coach appreciated his side’s reaction after the Lille equaliser, on a mental level, but also in terms of the coherence of his players as they pushed on to earn a precious victory.

Coach, this match was a pivotal match for the end of your season…

It was important. The point at Bordeaux was too, a point when suffering does some good. This evening, we started the game well. We scored very quickly and we continued after that. We wanted to score the second by being intelligent and patient, but we conceded the equaliser straight after half-time. But there was a magnificent reaction from my side with several chances. The win is deserved on the balance of the match even if it was difficult.

Did you like the strength of character of your side?

Yes, but also the coherence in our game after the equaliser. We reacted well, even though I don’t like this term because we need to act before anything else. I also saw that we were put in trouble by leaving too many spaces, Lille came at our goal too quickly. Our recovery runs need to be done better than that, some of them weren’t enough.

Your side seems to struggle regularly to create quick attacks. Do you agree with this analysis?

Yes, of course, it’s a fair point. But it’s difficult, it’s a huge piece of work. We need to get to stage where we attack quickly when winning the ball back. It’s of course something that is very important in order to be a complete side. But this evening, on the whole, it wasn’t bad, we made lots of chances. And the second goal was magnificent.

To talk about the goal, it’s a fantastic return for Souquet who had just come on. A super piece of coaching…

It’s more that Coly was struggling a bit with his hamstring, he couldn’t carry on. It’s good for Souquet who hasn’t played for two months. Last week, he only had 15-20 minutes in his legs, I still took him as part of the squad to Bordeaux because we were missing players. This goal is good for him and the squad. His cross is superb and the finish from Wylan too, he made the right run.

There are still great things to be done in these last 10 games…

If we continue like that, yes. I already said it and repeated that the 3 defeats against Metz - Toulouse - Dijon hurt us a lot because we should have picked up a couple of points. But that’s the way it is, now we will work hard, until 20 May.

The physio room is clearing out bit by bit, it’s encouraging…

Of course, we have suffered this season in that area. The team is still very young. For the next players coming back, we hope to get Le Marchand back for Guingamp, although that remains to be seen.
