The figures of improvement

With 6 wins and 2 draws, the Gym are currently in a fine spell in the league. The best form of all 20 sides in the top flight, in fact. Here is a zoom on the figures behind this improvement.

In terms of points, they are on fire

In excellent form in recent weeks, the Aiglons “have let rip” since the win over Toulouse (2-1, 29 November). This acceleration can clearly be seen in the league table, where the team, who was flirting with the relegation zone, has managed to climb back up to be on a par with 5th place in L1 (Nantes).

In the last 8 games, Seri and co. are averaging 2.5 points per match. They were averaging 1 per game in their first 14 encounters. In order to make a comparison, in the historic 2016/17 season (ending in 3rd place), they had an average of 2.05 points per game at the end of the 38 chapters...

The key known as solidity

Several factors explain the Red and Black turnaround. Right at the top of the list is the fact they have become (once again) a wall at the back. Here once again, the figures tell the story. Clearly. What had proved to be one of the main strengths of the squad from last season (0.9 per match over the whole of the season, 3rd best in France), has once again proved to be a certainty for the current squad.

In the last 8 games, the Aiglons have conceded 6 goals, an average of 0.75 per game and have picked up 3 clean sheets in the process. They had conceded 25 goals in their first 14 games (1.8 per match)...

Up-front, the return of the flame

As they look more solid at the back, the Red and Blacks have also proved more effective in the opposition’s box. Where as they had scored 15 goals in the first 14 league games, they have now scored 13 in the last 8. This has lifted their average to 1.6 goal per match and is back in line with last season (1.7).

It’s worth noting that since the start of the season, the Gym have found the back of the opposition’s net on 28 occasions, and have the 6th best attack in L1.
