Plea at 100

He is young for a player to have played 100 games. A player who, turned 24 in the spring and has already got a lot behind him. In Nantes, at the end of 2017, Alassane Plea played his 100th match of L1. Before the visit of Amiens (which could be his 103rd outing in the top-flight) and at the start of 2018, here is a look at the the robust forward’s record until now.

L1: Decisive once every two and a half games

“Right midfield is the position he was trained in. But not necessarily his preference. For me, his future will be in the middle. He has, in any case, the physical and technical characteristics to be an excellent striker.” These words dates from 29 October 2014. They were said by Claude Puel, Plea’s first coach at the Gym. Next to the sea, the man on the wing who was able to do a job in the middle, has transformed into a central striker capable of playing out on the wing. Stronger, more solid, more complete.

Even if the figures don’t reflect on their own, his incessant activity, they do, however, allow you to get an idea of the influence he has had on the Aiglons over the past three and a half seasons. In top-flight football, he has played in 102 games. Coming onto the pitch on 7 occasions with Lyon, he is now at 95 with the Gym (82 starts). His stats in Red and Black: 25 goals and 15 assists. Meaning he has made an impact on the game  with an act that has led to a goal, once in every 2.4 matches.

In Europe: Decisive during a historic success

With Nice, Alassane has also discovered the build-up of games. And this is despite two serious injuries which kept him off the pitch for a cumulative period of 1 year (6 months in 2015/2016; 6 months in 2016/2017). This  proves both the mental strength of the man as well as his willingness to work. In Europe, he has scored 5 goals in 14 outings (1 every 3 games, on average) with the Gym (+ 1 goal in 5 appearances in C3 with OL) including during the first European victory on foreign soil (photo below), against Salzbourg in October 2016.

Consistent this season

In the first half of 2017/2018, the number 14 continues with the same high standards, who was back on his feet for the first official match of the season (he came on for 20 minutes against Ajax, at the Allianz, after 6 months out). Since then, he has participated in 18 Ligue 1 matches, scoring 5 goals and picking up 2 assists. In Europe, he has scored 4 goals in 6 matches and has scored 1 goal in 3 outings in the cup, with the goal coming on Tuesday against Monaco. Thiss brings his impact on games up to one every 2.3 games.

It’s worth noting that at the start of 2018, Plea hit 10 goals in half a season (all competitions included), when he found the back of the net against Monaco. He had scored 14 in the first half last season.
