Interview

Favre: “It was too sketchy”

In his press conference, the Aiglons’ boss recognised that his side was once again too poor offensively, even though the encounter was separated by very small margins.

Lucien, how do you analyse this match?

We suffered in the early part of the game. Toulouse were up for it physically, they pressed us well and we struggled to play out from the back. We took some risks, at times some they were too dangerous. Then we played better, we had two great chances in the rest of the first half. We conceded early in the second and then it’s true that we struggled to take the game by the scruff of the neck and most of all, to create chances. In the one on ones, the movement, the cutting edge, it wasn’t there, it was too sketchy.

You came off the back of a superb end to 2017, is this the end of that?

No, not at all. We came back from way down the league, we qualified in two cups at the end of the year. We are eliminated today, we are disappointed, of course, because we were hoping to get through, but that’s the way it is.

We saw that Cardinale was very moved as he left the field…

You have to say things as they are, the goal came from his error. But you can’t put that down as the reason for our elimination. These are things that happen…

You spoke about a lack of efficiency in attack, unfortunately for him, Plea showed that, especially from the huge chance that he had at the start of the game. Confidence seems to be evading him…

He messed up his first touch, yes, it’s true. But you have to stop always putting that down to confidence. You need to work on it, be it individually or collectively and there you go. Once again, we are pointing at him or another player to explain the defeat, but I am looking a bit further than that.

News on Arnaud Souquet ?

Souquet had some pain in the foot, and then he couldn’t put pressure onto it. It’s not the ankle, but rather something in the foot, we can only find out more through tests.

The match against Monaco comes very quickly, on Tuesday, to bounce back…

Yes, it will be tough. We can see that they are already preparing for it, given that in the Cup today they have left out six players who would normally start.
