Mika Seri: “We can do it”

At the half way point in the 3rd Qualifying Round against Ajax, Mika Seri gives his view of things. Frustrated by the outcome of the first leg (1-1), the midfielder believes that the Aiglons have every chance in the return leg in Amsterdam.

Mika Seri began the 2017/18 season as he ended the previous one: making a difference. When the two sides couldn’t be separated, he took on his responsibilities to unblock the situation (32’): “I felt that there was space and I gobbled it up, explained the number 6. Mario made a great run, and I managed to set him up.”

Despite this breakthrough, the Aiglons didn’t manage to hold on to secure victory in the first clash: "We could have won, but we didn’t convert our chances. It’s true that they also hit the bar, but a win wouldn’t have been undeserved.”

The result: a legitimate frustration that Seri and his teammates will have the opportunity to erase from their memories on Wednesday: “The most important thing, is to pick our heads up. Let’s take this fixture calmly. There will be space. We will need to play to our best and to be fully concentrated. We can do it, we need to be confident.”

Even though, they now know what to expect on the pitch – "The two sides were more or less equal in the match and in the individual battles, it was a very good match but they weren't physically better than us" - the Aiglons will discover the atmosphere in the Amsterdam ArenA with its  54 000 spectators on Wednesday: "We are expecting a lot of noise from their fans but we will go there to win, without pressure."
